Kimono made of Lokta paper, a 30 g handmade natural paper from Nepal. Each kimono has its own design and print and all prints are the artist's own photographies printed on Lokta with an Epson Inkjet Photo Printer. The kimono is sewn on a sewing machine and mounted on a bamboo stand with a base of clay. Everything is designed and created by the artist. This kimono has an abstract print from Tromsoe, Norway, a photography of paper scraps on a bulletin board made into art. The idea for the paper kimonos came after my discovery of Lokta paper very much resemble fabric when applied with ink and wrinkled, at the same time as I was researching kimono patterns to sew a fabric kimono. I'm intrigued with how something so thin and fragile can be transformed into something quite durable. My vision for the kimonos is to take them from a piece of art into someone wearing a custom made kimono on for example an evening event. I can already see he/she is walking softly and elegant through the room with a drink in his/her hand, wearing something so delicate and unique.

Cecilia Andersen

Sweden

Cecilia Andersen, born 1979, living in Bromölla, Sweden. I'm a self taught artist who likes to find new ways to express myself. My photos work as base for most of my art and by trying more untraditional methods, I've found a way to present them in a more personal and expressive way. My latest project is sewing paper kimonos printed with my own photos. Each kimono has its own identity, formed by print and shape. I want my art to be something more than just something to look at. For example I invite everyone to touch the kimonos, feel the paper, hoping to wake some thought or feeling. My photos are often abstract, with the intention to get the observer to stop, to take a second look, stay with the piece while awakening the mind.
