Falukorv Samurai Digital print, printed on 250g matt paper. Part of my "Typical Swedish?" series. Limited Edition. Only 3 print at this size (A1). Background about the series: A bit of a background story: I moved to Sweden 10 years ago. I fell in love with the country from day one. Kanelbulle became my favorite go to pastry, Midsommar is my favorite holiday, Semla is something I didn’t know I missed in my life, falukorv, polarbröd and Billys saved my lazy ass a bunch of time when hunger suddenly kicked in, and one of my favorite thing about Christmas is of course the lussekatt. And the list of things I love goes on (as well as the list of things that most of the people here love but I sort of never vibed with them, sorry Kalles). There are brands that can be find in almost every Swedish household with millions of people who have a strong connection, thousands of memories and stories with them. And that’s fascinating. For me this is such a strong cultural DNA. You can go from Kiruna to Ystad, from Stockholm to Malmö, you will find kanelbulle everywhere and it will look and taste most likely the same, or pretty similar. You will find at least 5 restaurants having meatballs on their menu, as well as you will find all of the above mentioned items in every store in every town. With my posters series titled “Typical Swedish?” I’m trying to celebrate this cultural DNA while putting my fun twist on it, drawing inspiration from different cultures and arts.

More from Jozsef Deak

Jozsef Deak

Sweden

I work as a digital product designer, which, while being a creative profession has also a lot of rules and boundaries, things need to work, need to function, need to make sense. A part of me loves being a designer, loves the rules, guidelines, solving problems, making things work, but there is another side of me that simply wants to create without boundaries and limitations, wants to have fun, wants to be free. I let this side of me roam free through my art. In the past couple of years I experimented with different forms of art, anything from making music (reaching 800 unfinished demos), making a series of sticky note drawings of 1500 different faces, did a small detour in painting and recently drawing digitally. The more I drew the more I learned about myself and the world around me and the more my style started to form.
