The second and larger piece in the Dreamscape series. A few people have mentioned that it looks like an abstract version of The finger of God in the Sistine chapel (which I find to be a really beautiful compliment!). During the spring of 2026 it has been displayed at a modern art exhibition in L’Aquila, Italy (cultural capital of Italy 2026) curated by Borgo Pio Art Gallery in Rome. It has a dark gold wooden frame.

Helena Smeds

Sweden

My art often explores aspects of our inner and outer universe, as well as the borderland between the two. I find that it is a continous process rather than a clear-cut and concrete boundary, as it becomes increasingly indefinable, diffuse and flowing the closer you look. Other times the creation on my canvas is grounded in some aspect of life that is much more concrete (if abstract paintings can ever become concrete ;-)?), for example my series devoted to the most important thing for all of us - Mother Earth.

What becomes expressed through my art, from a meta perspective, can therefore be charachterized as a meeting between the known and the unknown, the sacred and the profane, the concrete and the abstract, the finite and the infinite.

With a background ranging from science (Ph.D in Bilingualism), teacher education (M.Ed), psychology (on both foundational and PhD-course levels) and spirituality (meditation- and yoga teacher), I found that art was the missing link in my life. I view and experience art as a path to healing, to presence and as a route to the deeper and unexplainable aspects of life. I also view art as an important visual medium that opens up the opportunity for connection and transformation in a world where separation and disconnection increasingly permeate our lives.

I create using my gut instinct and the paintings are made without a fixed plan (quite the opposite type of creating compared to scientific creating where logic and structure is absolutely vital). I enter the stream of creative flow and I keep creating and recreating until my gutfeeling says YES! It is like a journey to a new country, an exploration with all the senses acutely aware, soaking in the experience of every moment, the people, the places, the environments and the ambiance - so prescious. Each piece becomes a small window to the soul of the universe, concretized through the colors, structures and shapes on my canvas.

I often paint series with different themes and/or tonality, and it is not uncommon that my inner work becomes an outer expression on my canvas.
