Art Walk with Jenny Wall
Hi Jenny! We’ve seen that you will be joining this year’s edition of Västra Hisingen Art Walk, big fun! How does it feel now leading up to it?
Thank you so much, it feels good! Of course, it’s always quite some work to get everything ready for an exhibition. But always a fun part of it, I think. The planning builds up energy and expectations. I feel like I’m in a good place preparation-wise and since it is at my home I can curate the show multiple days ahead of the opening, and digest the output.
Have you been a part of this Art Walk previous years? If so, what has your experience prior to this one, been like?
This is my 3rd year beeing a part and that it incredible fun! It always draws a lot of my friends and family, but of course also quite a lot of people that live on and around Hisingen Island, in Gothenburg. We are in fact three artists that live on the same street, so that together draws some extra people. New clients as well as returning enthusiasts and clients. My kids normally have a coffee stand in our drive way, which also adds a lot to the atmosphere where people can hangout with others and have a good cup of coffee and some fresh bakery.
The format of welcoming in enthusiasts and potential clients into your own art studio can sometimes feel kind of intimate and personal. What is your take and experience of having enthusiasts and potential clients in your own personal, creative sphere?
I was pretty nervous the first year. As I didn’t know how it was going to be or what it was going to feel like. But it’s such a wonderful experience! It becomes an even more personal and honest exhibition since it is taking place in my home. I am truly showing who I am. Of course, I take away some privat items and not all rooms at home are accessible. But for me it feels very authentic and I believe the intimacy adds to that. My line is drawn at artworks that are not yet finished. In that part of the process I believe it is important to be just myself. Then again, these works are not part of my Art Walk show. I think it also depends, where the line is drawn, from artist to artist.
What are your expectations from this year’s Art Walk?
I am really looking forward to the incredible energy it gives and all the joyful visitors, new and old. To hear the onlooker’s thoughts and reflections when standing in front of my artworks is most amazing thing I can receive as an artist! That my expression awakens something in someone else’s inner life. Then it always turns into such a groovy party mood and the evenings often become late nights, when friends, family and neighbors stay for one or multiple glasses of champagne..
For those that would like to visit you during Västra Hisingen Art Walk (Konstrundan), where may they do that physically? And is there a way for interested people to take part of your contripubtion somewhere digitally?
I am located on Skiljedalsvägen 30 in Tumlehed, Torslanda. The easiest way to access is by car, but public transportation works well also. With public transportation it will be a nice walk to reach the house. We will have a digital vernissage of Västra Hisingen Art Walk (Konstrundan), on Konstrundan Västra Hisingens Facebook page on Friday, September 17th at 6pm. To officially inaugurate this years art walk and also to celebrate to 10th year anniversary of our art walk! In addition to that, I will also be having my own vernissage where I am broadcasting live on my Instagram page @jennywallart and there I will also be broadcasting during the weekend. On my Instagram and Facebook page one will be able to follow everything going on!
We wish you best of luck on this year’s Västra Hisingen Art Walk and are looking forward to following it online!
Thank you so much!
