Vilma Lorena Parada
Sweden
I am a Colombian-born photographer and curator based in Sigtuna, Sweden. My photographic practice is rooted in observation, nature, place, and the quiet details of everyday life. Photography has been part of my creative journey for many years. After completing my studies in Business Management and Leadership and Management in an International Context, I returned to Colombia to study professional photography. I later completed an MA in Contemporary Curating in the United Kingdom, which expanded my understanding of photography and visual art as ways of creating narratives, atmospheres, and connections. Photography has also become part of a more personal process of reconnecting with myself. After many years of moving between countries, professional roles, and different aspects of my identity, I am learning to slow down and allow myself to observe without always needing to move forward. The camera has become a way of returning to the present. My photographic work is particularly connected to nature and the feeling of being immersed in a landscape. I hope to create images that carry a sense of calm, intimacy, and recognition—photographs that allow viewers to find their own connection to a place, a moment, or a feeling. My background in curating contemporary art also influences the way I approach photography. I think about images not only individually, but in relation to one another: how they create rhythm, atmosphere, narrative, and space for the viewer. I am interested in photographs that do not necessarily demand an immediate answer, but instead invite us to pause and look. Alongside photography, I am exploring textile and bead embroidery through my creative project, Aima Broderi. Both practices share an interest in detail, texture, patience, and the transformation of simple materials into something meaningful. I am currently developing my photographic practice with the intention of creating work that can live beyond the moment in which it was made—images that can become part of someone’s home, memory, and relationship with nature.
