I think a lot of people are deeply exhausted right now. And not just physically. We live in a time where everything revolves around productivity, availability, responsibility and constantly keeping up. So many people carry this feeling that they should always be doing more. Giving more. Being stronger. Pushing harder. And even when we finally slow down for a moment, a lot of us don’t actually know how to rest anymore. I honestly think some of the strongest and most caring people struggle the most with this. They are so used to carrying everything that rest starts to feel undeserved. That’s why I painted a bear. Bears are wild, powerful, incredibly resilient animals. And every winter, they retreat to rest. Not because they are weak, lazy or failing. They rest because it is necessary. Because preserving their energy is part of their strength. They do not ask for permission. They do not apologize for needing stillness. They simply follow what their body and nature ask of them. There is something deeply human in that. Or maybe something we have forgotten how to be human about. We were never meant to function like machines all year round without pause. And I think a society that makes people feel guilty for resting is a society that has drifted very far away from what is natural and healthy. Maybe rest is not something we need to earn after all. Maybe it is part of how we survive. Part of how we stay soft, connected, creative and alive.
