About

Alva is a contemporary oil painter from Sweden whose work explores the emotional and psychological depth of human experience.

Growing up, she was always drawn to observing people and the subtle emotional worlds we carry beneath the surface. She’s long been fascinated by how differently we all experience life, even when we share the same external reality. That curiosity about the inner lives of people has naturally shaped the themes that appear in her paintings today.

In her early twenties she lived in Australia for several years, an experience that deeply influenced her perspective on life and creativity. Being in a completely different environment taught her to trust her own path, to embrace freedom and exploration, and to pay closer attention to the small, meaningful moments that shape who we become. That period of her life encouraged a deeper sense of reflection, which continues to influence her artistic process.

Her work often centres around quiet moments of recognition, the subtle inner states we carry but rarely express outwardly. Through figurative elements, symbolism, and atmosphere, she aims to capture the feeling of being present with oneself and with others.

For Alva, painting is both observation and exploration. It is a way of translating thoughts, emotions, and lived experiences into visual form, creating pieces that invite the viewer to pause and perhaps recognise something of themselves within the work.

Inspiration

Alvas inspiration comes from the inner world of human experience, our thoughts, emotions, memories, and the quiet moments where we meet ourselves more honestly.

She’s inspired by the complexity of consciousness and the idea that every person moves through life with a unique inner story. She often draw inspiration from moments of stillness, reflection, and connection between people.

Nature also plays an important role in her work, particularly organic forms such as flowers and natural textures, which she uses as symbolic elements to reflect emotional states and transformation.

More broadly, Alva is inspired by philosophy, psychology, and the deeper questions about identity, perception, and what it means to be human.

She studied design and arts for her high school degree in Sweden

Alva works primarily with oil paint on canvas, drawn to the depth, richness, and subtle transitions the medium allows. Her technique combines controlled figurative painting with softer, atmospheric elements that create emotional space within the image.

She often build the painting in layers, allowing colours, textures, and forms to gradually emerge. This layered approach helps create a sense of depth and presence while also allowing the work to evolve intuitively over time.

She’s particularly interested in balancing realism with a more expressive, fluid quality. Through the use of light, texture, and symbolic elements, I aim to create paintings that feel both grounded and slightly dreamlike.

Alvas process usually begins with a feeling, memory, or psychological state I want to explore rather than a fully defined image. She’s often drawn to moments that feel quietly significant, experiences or expressions that seem almost frozen in time.

From there, she looks for visual references that help bring that memory or emotional atmosphere closer to what she initially felt. Alva only work with references that resonate with the feeling I’m trying to capture. She then sketch from those references as a starting point before moving onto the canvas.

Once the composition is established, the painting develops through layers of oil paint. She allows the work to evolve intuitively, responding to colour, texture, and atmosphere as the image slowly takes form.

Throughout the process, her focus is on preserving the emotional presence of the original moment, refining the painting until it holds the sense of stillness, recognition, or quiet depth that first inspired it.

For Alva, painting is a way of translating fleeting moments and inner experiences into something lasting.
