About
I am a Swedish contemporary artist based on the west coast of Sweden, working under the name Studio Cathrine. With a background in interior design and creative work, I have always been drawn to textures, shapes and the beauty of imperfect surfaces. Painting has become my own way of exploring these elements and expressing what I see and feel.
People fascinate me. Their expressions, relationships and the stories they carry. My work moves between figurative and abstract art, often featuring faces, silhouettes and human forms. I mainly work with acrylics, texture materials, charcoal and ink, building up layers, painting over and scraping back to create depth and surfaces that carry traces of time.
Some paintings explore strength and independence, others friendship, connection or simply being present. I like to leave room for the viewer's own interpretation.
For me, art doesn't always need to tell the whole story. Sometimes, the story is yours to discover.

Inspiration
I find inspiration in people I meet and the stories they carry. I'm equally also drawn to nature, weathered surfaces, raw textures and the beauty of imperfection.
Traces of time, unexpected shapes and subtle details often spark new ideas. Sometimes it's a feeling, a memory or just a moment that becomes the starting point for a new painting.
I rarely know exactly where a painting will take me. I enjoy letting the materials and the creative process guide the final expression.
Primarily selftaught as an artist, with a lifelong interest in painting and creative expression. I studied life drawing (croquis) in my younger years and recently completed a course in oil portrait painting 2026.
In September 2026, I exhibited at Galleri Engleson in Gothenburg, followed shortly after by Affordable Art Fair Stockholm. Both were wonderful experiences and important milestones in my artistic journey, with a very positive response to my work.
I am currently creating new pieces and further developing my collections, with exciting opportunities for future exhibitions and collaborations. A summer exhibition on the Swedish west coast is also being planned for 2027.
I mainly work with acrylic paint, different texture materials, charcoal and ink on canvas or on handmade paper. I build up my paintings in layers, often using acrylics, palette knives, brushes and sponges. By painting over, scraping back and working into the textured surfaces, I create depth, contrasts and a sense of time and imperfection.
My technique combines figurative elements with abstract textures, allowing faces and human forms to gradually emerge through the creative process.
My painting process is intuitive and often begins with texture rather than a specific image. I build up layers using acrylic paint and different materials, allowing colours, shapes and surfaces to develop naturally. I paint over, scrape back and sometimes let diluted paint flow across the canvas, creating unexpected effects and revealing earlier layers.
Faces and human figures gradually emerge as I work. I enjoy the balance between controlling the process and allowing unexpected details to become part of the final painting.
