About

My artistic expression manifests primarily through oil painting on large canvases and sculpture, but also through digital work, where I photograph the piece during the painting process and manipulate the image digitally. Grounded in classical modernism—a foundation deepened during my years at Falkenberg Art School (1988–1990)—my artistic practice has evolved into a deeper exploration of form, surface, and material. My professional career began in 1992 when my work caught the attention of Håkan Wettre for the Gothenburg December Salon. Gothenburg’s art hall and art museum were testing one person jury that winter which resulted in a salon with a much tighter, more cohesive, and distinct artistic vision than in previous years. It was an early indication that my artistic voice had real staying power.
Since then, my work has been featured in international group exhibitions in China (Ordos 2016 and Xiamen 2014) alongside established Scandinavian artists from the venerable Danish collective Corner, as well as in a solo exhibition in the spring of 2026 at Galleri 53 in Kungsbacka.
Margaretha Grönvall, a prominent figure at the Stockholm Affordable Art Fair, visited my exhibition in Kungsbacka and liked what she saw. She now acts as my mentor; she recommended Artist Arena to me, and I met with Fredrik Sologub during the most recent event. After 30 years as an art teacher, I am now dedicating myself wholeheartedly to my art.

Inspiration

I was introduced to the expressions of modernism during my art education at Falkenberg School of Art. A new world opened up to me. If I were to mention a few of the artists who have inspired me, it would be Picasso for his courage, Matisse for the color and drawing, Chagall for the figurative poetry, Ragnar Sandberg for the color, and Peter Dahl's dreamlike works from 1985–87. Pipilotti Rist's cranked-up color and form fascinate me, and I always pause in front of Rothko and Tàpies. The list could go on, and I am inspired by contemporary painting and sculpture that is rhythmic, intuitive, and—to use an abstract concept—has life!

My work mainly consists of oil on linen. Sometimes, at a certain point in the process, I stop painting to capture a photo of the piece. I then manipulate this image digitally, output a fine art print, and continue to layer it by drawing with acrylics and charcoal. When it comes to my sculptures, I lean towards stoneware clay, letting the material intuitively and musically guide its own shape and rhythm. Additionally, I cast in concrete, where a piece originally created in ceramics serves as the master model for the mold.

My process: I often start with a color that inspires me. I mix its opposite or a dark, muted variant. I paint it into some kind of shape so that it almost covers the surface, draw a few unplanned lines across the color, and rhythmically place a few highlights across the area. After that, I wait, observe the image, and hold a meeting with myself. It can take a few days, sometimes weeks. Then, I see something interesting on the canvas, and the journey toward the final goal begins—for me to feel free, to be able to breathe when I look at my color. To ensure I haven't stated anything that feels predictable and forced, but rather open, alive, and pointing in a direction that feels satisfying. Other times, I do the exact opposite.
