About
Maria Vister is a textile artist whose vibrant creations are brought to life through the technique of tufting, using wool as her primary medium. She also enjoy mixing unexpected materials in her work, combining the softness of yarn with more rigid elements like mosaic. It’s a playful challenge, and playfulness is key to both her creative process and finished works. Maria aim for her pieces to exude a sense of fun and lightheartedness. Her work is designed to evoke joy and bring a smile to the viewer's face. For Maria, color holds an irresistible, almost physical attraction; it is her greatest source of inspiration. Guided by her deep love of color, she approaches tufting with the simple yet powerful mission of spreading happiness. It’s not complicated—her craft is about creating joyful, wool-based artworks that leave a lasting impression and can be cherished for generations.

Inspiration
Inspiration for my work flows from many sources, but color is always at the core. Every hue carries its own energy and personality, and I am deeply drawn to exploring the way colors interact. Nature is one of my greatest muses, with its ever-changing palette—from the soft greens of the forest to the vibrant colors of a sunset. The natural world provides endless inspiration, filled with both contrasts and harmony.
Fashion also plays a vital role in shaping my creative process. Having worked as a fashion designer, I love seeing how textures, patterns, and trends blend together. Fashion’s constant evolution pushes me to incorporate that dynamic interplay into my tufted pieces.
I find inspiration in the everyday as well—whether it’s a fleeting moment on the street, a flower in bloom, or bold graffiti art. Sometimes the most ordinary things can spark extraordinary ideas.
Children’s thoughts and drawings are another major source of joy and inspiration for me. Their free-spirited creativity, their sense of wonder, and their willingness to embrace the unexpected really speak to me. I love translating that into my work, bringing that same spontaneity into my art.
Irony and humor also play an important role in my creations. I love to inject a bit of wit and lightness into what I make, hoping that it will evoke a smile or a laugh. At the end of the day, my goal is to create art that not only feels playful but also brings a bit of joy and humor into the world.
