About
My name is Therese Tullgren, and I don’t follow frames or rules – I create my paintings in my unique way. I hope that my art spreads joy and sparks reflection. Throughout my life, art, design, and creativity have been my sanctuary – a space where I find strength and energy. I’ve worked with clay and ceramics, taken various oil painting courses, and painted porcelain. In 2023, I began painting with acrylics on canvas.
My artistic process is a journey deep into my inner world – a place where I can release my imagination and let it flow freely.
Each of my works is born from a desire to share the sense of playfulness and wonder I experience while creating them.
In my expressionist paintings, color plays a central role in conveying emotions and atmosphere. I explore bold, vibrant palettes, applying acrylics in a way that creates depth and movement. These works often carry a dramatic and energetic quality, where every brushstroke is filled with a sense of freedom and spontaneity.
I believe in the power of creativity to inspire and positively impact people's lives. My wish is for every encounter with my art to become a personal journey – a discovery of one's inner world.
It’s important to me that my art is accessible. My goal is to give people the opportunity to bring my art into their lives and create personal, creative spaces – at home or work.
Harlequin Confident
Inspiration
My Harlequin Ladies series has grown out of a deep fascination with color, form, and the many ways we express ourselves as human beings. The foundation of my inspiration comes from the colorful costume of the Harlequin character – playful, bold, and full of contrasts. I love how the patterns of the Harlequin figure both conceal and reveal – just like we sometimes do with the masks we wear in life.
I also draw much of my inspiration from the rich color palettes and symbolic patterns of the Inca era. The geometric shapes and vivid hues speak a visual language that feels both ancient and contemporary – and that stirs something inside me.
Color has always been my way of expressing emotion. I paint because color brings me joy, strength, and positive energy – and I hope that feeling shines through to those who view my work.
Harlequin Ladies is a tribute to feminine strength, to our inner complexity, and to all the faces we wear – whether revealed, hidden, or somewhere in between.
I am mostly self-taught, but I’ve had a strong visual sense for as long as I can remember. Creating has always been a natural part of my life, and over the years I’ve explored many different forms of artistic expression.
To deepen my knowledge, I’ve taken courses in both oil painting and porcelain painting, where I had the opportunity to explore techniques and materials in various ways. But most of my development has come from curiosity, experimentation, and countless hours in the studio – where I’ve shaped my visual language.
Being self-taught has given me the freedom to follow my own path and to trust my intuition more than the rules. It has shaped the way I create – intuitively, boldly, and with a sense of freedom.

I primarily paint with acrylics on canvas – a medium I love for its speed, intensity, and versatility. With acrylic paint, I build up my compositions in multiple layers, where each brush stroke adds new energy and depth to the artwork.
To create contrast, texture, and a more hand-drawn feel, I also use acrylic crayons. They allow me to add details, lines, and spontaneous elements that make each piece unique – as if the painting has found its voice.
Together, these techniques create a vibrant expression – combining both precision and playfulness.
My creative process begins with an abstract concept—often inspired by a single word or a strong emotion. I translate this initial inspiration into a digital sketch, carefully refining the motif until it captures the essence I want to convey. This digital phase allows me to experiment freely with composition and form before committing to the canvas.
Next, I transfer the refined outlines onto the canvas, establishing the structural foundation of the piece. The choice of color palette is a deliberate and intuitive step—I select hues that resonate with the mood and narrative of the artwork.
As I apply layers of acrylic paint, the painting gradually comes to life. I remain attentive to how the piece communicates with me, constantly adjusting and responding to the evolving energy on the canvas. The process is deeply intuitive; I know the painting is complete when it evokes a genuine emotional response and feels fully alive.
This balance between conceptual planning and spontaneous expression defines my artistic journey, allowing each work to develop its own unique voice.
