About
Since early age, I have been litterally surrounded by art. My mother was a painter. We travelled a lot and I was early introduced to classic and modern art. Although I loved to paint and draw, I chose science, and started to paint more frequently only a few years ago.
In 2008, I got my PhD in Marine Ecology. It was in no way a straithforward path, but Nature was there, always beautiful. As I had lived abroad for a good part of my youth, Swedish nature, both land and sea, was exotic and full of wonders to me. Take for example the striped cliffs of the Koster islands with a glowing moss in a dark cave, or the complex forms of microscopic animals in the sea... I learned to notice birds and bugs, small things and big, I am very glad for the experiences I cary with me from this time. I think it was important in every aspect of my life.

Inspiration
My mother was an important inspiration. Sometimes I recognize a discussion we had or a technique or colour combination she used, in my paintings.
Nature is a great source of inspiration, for example colours, light, animals, movements, or powers in nature.
Many artists have inspired me, and it is impossible to name all. Besides Roman, Greek and renaissance art, I love the light and jungle details in Henry Rousseau's images, the wild weather in Turner's work, Kandinskij's abstract worlds, Japanese woodblock prints, ... actually, I like elements of all kinds of styles. A beautiful cloud in the sky or the neighbour's cat moving through the garden may also be inspiration. Sometimes, the destruction happening in the world lets itself into my paintings, with sad emotion and blacknes.
I am mostly self taught regarding the techniques that I use. However, I do have a theoretical and practical base of knowledge, mostly from my mother. I had interest in art and attended some workshops and classes on modern art, and some classes in oil painting.

I choose acrylics because of the short drying time. Acrylics allow me to test ideas in a short time. I like to put colours side by side so that one may enhance the other.
Lately, I have tried the use of different tools for applying colour, for exemple scrapes, rollers, sponges, nets and stencils. It is fun!
I paint in abstract, semi abstract or a more realistic style, depending on the theme.
In my abstract paintings, sometimes, I divide the surface in equal parts, to create order. However, sometimes I explore disorder.
Often, I have a clear idea before I start, however, elements of the idea are changed in the process. There is no way of knowing exactly what paths will present themselves during work, until I am there. Maybe I will find a knot in the fabric, or make an error that turns out right,... I have to trust that I will solve the puzzle when time comes.
